ZOMBIE CARNAGE
My final year of university I was tasked with making a game with more complex and in-depth mechanics where I created a game called Zombie Carnage. This is a game set in a retro arcade/ps1 style gameplay where the player will be challenged to survive an endless onslaught of waves of zombies in different environments, that are also aimed to challenge the player through its layout and design. The player will have access to four different areas, including an arcade, cinema and bowling alley where they will have to navigate the environment in a top down dimly lit area required the player to focus on navigation and control the number of enemies. The end goal of the game is set by the player allowing them to dictate the style of gameplay they wish to have, as they can focus on killing as many zombies as possible earning the greatest number of points or surviving as many waves as they can. The waves of zombies will get increasingly harder as time progresses, enemies will spawn more frequently and gain more health; enemies will also reward the player with points that they can spend on interacting with certain objects found throughout the levels; these mechanics to designed to help the player survive for longer. This
includes enemies dropping different types of powerups that have different effects on the player, this can include items such as armour that will allow the player to take extra hits, until breaking after taking a set amount of damage, a double weapon fire rate that will allow the player to double the fire rate of a specific weapon. The player will also have access to a mystery machine, this is an item the player can interact with for a set number of points, this item will then give the player a random weapon that they can use, this can be either better or worse than the current weapon they have. For this game I took inspiration from different games, including Call Of Duty:Dead Ops Arcade for the overall gameplay loop, due to the simplistic yet highly replay ability of this type of game, whilst also having engaging mechanics motivating the player to challenge themselves to get a better score or progress further through the game.
